Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT)
Our BS in Information Technology provides students with a solid foundation in information technology principles and practice. The emphasis is on applications of information technology rather than the computer itself. Information technology focuses on assisting others in implementing solutions to practical problems using modern technology.
The BS in Information technology program also provides an opportunity for students to combine their technical IT courses with general business courses as free elective courses from the School of Business. IT professionals deal with the application of computer programs to solve business processes. IT has become an essential piece of every business plan from large, multinational corporations to small, family-owned businesses. Unlike a computer science associate who often works unaided, the IT professionals are more likely to interact with others- whether in person, via phone, email, Skype, video conference – while helping solve technological problems.
Each graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology should be able to analyze, design and implement high-quality software solutions to “real life” problems; orally present developed software projects; develop software solutions completely; function effectively in team-oriented cooperative work; pursue independent continuous learning; and have a solid background in broad IT knowledge. During the senior year (Year 4), students will have the opportunity to choose focus areas through their major elective courses. Some of the focus areas are Applied Networking & Systems Administration; Information Security and Assurance; Database Administration & Web Database Integration; Software Applications Development and Management Information Systems.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology are prepared for careers in Information Systems and Information Technology and will have career opportunities as application programmer/analyst, business/systems analysts, Systems administrator, database administrator, and information security specialist, as design, implementation, and management of IT projects; application /technical support specialist, network integration specialist, client/server analysts and IT project manager, etc. Our curriculum also prepares students for top-notch graduate study in IT, business, and other related fields.
