Lisa Sanders Luscombe

Lisa Sanders Luscombe is Project Manager for the English Language and Nonproliferation (ELAN) Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) in the Monterey Institute of International Studies.  Lisa also served as managing editor of the Nonproliferation Review for four years.  She develops and teaches curricula on language and nonproliferation issues for the ELAN program, the Visiting Fellows program, and the Critical Issues Forum at CNS.  Her students are nuclear and biological scientists, toxicologists, engineers, and export control officials from China, Russia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Southeast Asia.  She also teaches diplomats and officers in the ministries of foreign affairs from Azerbaijan, China, Indonesia, and Korea.  She has been teaching and designing curricula for 14 years and has 20 years' experience in development of college- and graduate-level textbooks in pre-med and life science, scientific research editing, and publications management, as well as educational assessment.  Her area of specialty is content-based instruction in nonproliferation, international relations, and diplomacy, and her research focus is on language for cross-cultural communication and conflict resolution.  She holds a masters degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.  She has also developed teacher-training workshops in nonproliferation issues for high school teachers in Russia’s closed nuclear cities.
