PhD Workshop 2008December 19-20, 2008 The workshop brought together a select group of Azerbaijani and international PhDs and PhD candidates in the social science discipline, with special emphasis on international relations, economics and international law. The discussions and presentations were held in four panels featuring energy issues, economics, law and political science. The event took place in Retro Club, a Caspian Sea resort located outside Baku. It started with the opening session on December 19 featuring Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev, ADA Rector and Deputy Foreign Minister, other high-ranked public officials as well as prominent academics, including Dr. Frederick Starr, Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Brenda Shaffer, ADA visiting faculty from the University of Haifa, Dr. Tony Winer, William Mitchell School, 2008-2009 Fulbright Scholar and Dr. Nigar Hashimzade, University of Reading.
