Dr. Vafa Kazdal currently works at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy as the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences. She also teaches Academic and Professional English courses. Before joining ADA, she worked at the Azerbaijan University of Foreign Languages as a senior lecturer in English Language Teaching Methodology and director of the Academic Writing and Reading Center. She received her diploma as a Teacher of English and French languages and her PhD from the Azerbaijan University of Foreign Languages. Her dissertation is entitled “Communicative Language Teaching in Azerbaijan: Factors Influencing its Implementation”. She also received an MA in English Language Studies and Methods from the University of Warwick (UK).
Vafa Kazdal spent a year at the Indiana University, Bloomington as a Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) fellow doing research on communicative language teaching methods and teaching writing. During her stay, she gave presentations at the 24th and 31st annual TESOL conferences and published an article entitled “English Language Teaching in Azerbaijan” in the Chronicle of Education in Russia and Eurasia, Institute for the Study of Russian Education, Indiana University, 2002/9. Some of her other publications are: “Communicative Language Teaching in Azerbaijan: From Theory to Practice” (Khazar University Press, 2002/2); “Purposeful and Interactive Activities as the Key to Motivate Students to Read” (Elmi Xeberler) [Scientific News], ADU, 2005/2).
