Baku,Azerbaijan-Cairo University Professor of Arabic Language and Literature, Professor Hani As-Sisi delivered a speech on the Arabic roots of the Azerbaijani language at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. Professor As-Sisi explained how the Arabic language came to the territory of modern-day Azerbaijan with the spread of Islam in the 7th century. As a result, the Azerbaijani language incorporates more than ten thousand words of Arabic origin, he noted. Professor Hani As-Sisi has spent the past two years teaching Arabic in Azerbaijan, primarily at the Nexchivan State University and, since October this year, at ADA. He has also translated into Arabic and published the writings of Calil Mammadquluzade as well as Azerbaijani proverbs. Senior Azerbaijani scholars on Arabic and the Middle East, students and diplomats, including five ambassadors from various Arabic countries, attended the lecture.
