Baku, Azerbaijan-Popular Artist of Azerbaijan Mansum Ibrahimov and his students of the A. Zeynalov School of Music performed at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy on April 15. Mr. Ibrahimov delivered a brief lecture on the history of mugam, its similarities and differences with other folk music of Iran and Central Asia, before treating the audience with renditions of classic muqams, including “Qarabagh Sikastasi” and “Susanin Daqlari”.

He assured the audience of ADA students, staff and several local and international guests that Azerbaijani mugam has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, and that Mugam and other national folk music and culture are being performed across the world. Mr. Ibrahimov also reiterated the importance of culture, and music in particular, in fostering international and intercultural relations.
