October 28, 2011 - H.E. Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan delivered a lecture in front of ADA students, faculty and staff on Azerbaijan's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He described the intense diplomatic efforts that have gone into a recent election of Azerbaijan into UN Security Council and called this victory a "major diplomatic achievement of our country in the past 20 years of independence".
Minister Mammadyarov also focused on goals and objectives of his diplomatic service during the next 2 years of Azerbaijan's membership in UNSC. He stressed that multiculturalism shall play a great role in Azerbaijan’s image in the Security Council as of a country where a mix of religions, ethnicities and nationalities coexist together peacefully.
Minister Mammadyarov spoke of the other major issues that Azerbaijan will pursue, such as global peace and security, fighting poverty within Millennium Development Goals, global warming and climate change.
