Dean
JOB SUMMARY
The Dean is responsible for the overall planning, strategic directions, and oversight of operations for all of the programs offered through the Academy. In addition, the Dean will provide leadership in the management of faculty; development of faculty in support of faculty teaching, research, and scholarship; promotion of curricular and pedagogical innovation and excellence; improvement of student advisement, budget management and fund raising, supervision of nonacademic personnel and assessment and improvement of the administrative affairs of the Academy.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• An earned doctorate from an accredited institution
• At least 5 years of demonstrated and successful leadership experience such as a dean, associate dean, or a department head or chair
• Must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the Academy's mission, vision, and values
• A record of proven knowledge in the area of academic program development and evaluation and curriculum development
• Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate and enforce academic program policies, procedures, and standards and corporate personnel
• A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and/or professional activity to meet the qualifications for assignment of faculty rank
• Ability to manage an academic organization and work effectively with colleagues among both faculty and staff
• Ability to function as a team player dedicated to achieving the specific goals of the Academy
• Must have a working knowledge of personal software packages to prepare correspondence, spreadsheets, and reports
• Proven experience in a progressively responsible capacity in an education environment directing and/or leading activities organization-wide
• Experience in assessing student learning outcomes, including regular review of academic standards and quality of programs and instruction
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Must be results oriented and able to direct multiple projects and activities
• Ability to develop and maintain fair, consistent, and transparent means of handling ongoing administrative activities
• Successful financial leadership and management experience, especially in administering a complex operating budget
• Ability to develop and implement successful fund raising programs
• Ability to have a substantial commitment to education, scholarship, and public service
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Appropriately balancing the demands of the office as an academic leader, chief administrative officer, fundraiser, advocate, and public spokesperson for the Academy and education
• Embedding expectations and institutional infrastructure to support an ongoing cycle of planning, improvement, assessment/evaluation, accountability, and renewed planning
• Providing leadership while working with faculty and department chairs in formulating ADA polices, long-range planning and in determining long-range and strategic planning goals and objectives
• Leading the implementation of policy on undergraduate and graduate education within the faculty
• Promoting excellence in faculty teaching, service, professional growth/development, and academic achievement
• Creating and fulfilling high expectations within the Academy's academic leaders and faculty regarding student success, as measured by academic mastery as well as recruitment, retention, and graduation statistics
• Increasing access to the Academy, consistent with its focus and mission, of qualified students from diverse and non-traditional backgrounds in both undergraduate and graduate education
• Promoting educational strategies that support quality, innovation, and the utilization of technology in teaching and learning
• Respecting and adhering to principles of fiduciary responsibility and stewardship of the institution's resources; supporting transparency and accountability in the management of the Academy's resources
• Overseeing the process of hiring and evaluating faculty and staff
• Recognizing and rewarding the contributions of high-quality, high-potential, high-performing faculty, staff and professionals in the Academy
• Communicating frequently and effectively with the Academy faculty and staff and responding promptly to all needs
• Working with the faculty to pursue, develop, and manage grants and contracts in support of research and service
• Developing and managing the budget, technical support, and school services
• Giving special attention to all facets of fund-raising
• Liaising with faculty quality assurance teams and support implementation of their recommendations relating to undergraduate and graduate education
