Development Officer

JOB SUMMARY

Development Officer coordinates cultivation and solicitation of major gift donors, develops fundraising strategies, prepares and presents grant proposals, serves as development liaison, supports budget, projects, goals, and strategic planning.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• University degree in law, communications or finance
• Minimum of 3 years development experience including significant major gifts experience
• Strong verbal and professional written communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with academic leadership, faculty, prospects and donors, and in a wide range of roles
• Demonstrated leadership experience and skills; experience and ability to train, motivate and manage professional staff and establish effective working relationships with other staff, faculty and administrators
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of data base programs, record keeping
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working both independently and as a team member
• Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development
• Demonstrated experience building relationships with high-profile volunteers and prospects, and the ability to form and leverage relationships with key funding sources
• Experience in managing multiple complex fundraising initiatives involving a diverse set of goals and priorities related to campus-wide initiatives
• Experience in securing a portfolio of major gift prospects/donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations
• Accuracy, punctual responses to donors and attention to detail

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providing strategic direction and leadership for all fundraising and programs and activities of the Academy including: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and alumni relations
• Developing fundraising strategies and methods or activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors
• Providing dynamic, innovative and fiscally responsible leadership to the fundraising process
• Writing grant proposals and reports to corporations, foundations, and other funders
• Creating and implementing annual development plan and strategy, supporting the preparation of annual budget and program projects
• Forming and leveraging strong relationships with donors and prospects and maintaining a portfolio of major prospects
• Utilizing both current and planned gift opportunities to best meet donors’ needs, interests and financial capabilities
• Developing and implementing strategy for each prospect, including ways to increase involvement of donors and prospects in the activities of the Academy
• Expanding the current donor base, including all aspects of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate and individual donors
• Providing regular progress reports on the prospect cultivation and solicitation, and completing and filing thorough reports of all contacts in a timely manner
• Leading, supporting and empowering a cohesive fundraising team through active communication and delegation, and ensure staff accountability for excellence through clearly defined and measurable goals; oversee all aspects of prospect management and fundraising and related activities.
