Librarian, Information Services

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The ADA Library is experiencing rapid growth in its collections and services. The Librarian (Information Services) manages the information literacy and reference materials. The position reports directly to the  Director of Library and Information Services and works very closely with the Librarian (Technical Services). S/he adheres to an excellent client oriented approach. The position is a faculty level position. The Instructional Language of ADA is English.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide instructional services and reference to students, faculty, staff, and other members of the ADA community ;
• Develop a comprehensive approach to library instructional services ;
• Participate in library-wide programs such as collection, development (in all formats), assessment, and strategic planning ;
• Undertake in-depth research on inquiries and facilitate end-user searches
• Develop, promote and instruct library users in topic and course integrated sessions on the use of electronic information systems, library research techniques and general library resources and services ;
• Prepare print & electronic instruction tools, and assist in monitoring and developing reference web pages ;
• Contribute to the ADA community by participating in and working with ADA academic committees and student organizations ;
• Keep up-to-date on issues & trends in librarianship at the national, regional  & international levels ;
• Help define information literacy objectives by discipline, to design/refine library-based assignments ;
• Provide input on the design of the library’s web image/web site ;Perform other library duties and participate in library projects as assigned by the supervisor (Director, Library and Information Services).

REQUIREMENTS:

• An ALA accredited MLS degree or equivalent and fluent in written and oral English ;
• Minimum 4 to 5 years library experience ;
• Teaching and supervisory skills and experience in information literacy instruction as expected in a culturally diverse community
• Ability to train and work effectively with individuals at all levels and in a team ;
• Demonstrated/documented evidence of successful performance in a reference department of an automated academic library and experience providing reference service ;
• Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in technical services and library technologies  and ability to view issues from a broad library-wide perspective ;;
• Evidence of effective interpersonal communication, analytical and organizational skills ;
• Ability to lead, envision, and plan for future directions and has excellent problem solving skills ;
• Commitment to excellent client services to a culturally diverse user base ;
• Knowledge of trends and issues facing international libraries ;
• Experience with a range of information technologies for web-based services ;
• Active in professional organizations and working in newly developed professional associations ;
