Librarian, Technical Services

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The ADA Library is experiencing rapid growth in its collections and services. The Librarian (Technical Services) manages all aspects of technical services support and management in an academic environment. The position reports directly to the  Director of Library and Information Services and works very closely with the Librarian (Information Services). S/he adheres to an excellent client oriented approach. The position is a faculty level position. The Instructional Language of ADA is English.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Manages the technical services, information technology duties, acquisitions, cataloging, collection development and serials ;
• Coordinates IT activities and workflow with other areas of the Library and the Academy ;
• Contribute to the ADA community by participating in and working with ADA committees and student organizations ;
• Participate in library-wide programs such as collection development (in all formats), assessment, and strategic planning ;
• Take a leadership role, locally and regionally, in identifying and implementing new developments in the field through active participation in professional organizations ;
• Perform other library duties and participate in library projects as assigned by the supervisor (Director, Library and Information Services).

REQUIRMENTS:

• An ALA accredited MLS degree or equivalent and has at least 3 years of supervisor experience ;
• At least five years library experience ;
• Fluency in written and oral English. Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and planning skills ;
• Recent experience in acquisitions, cataloging, digital initiatives, serials or systems ;
• Experience with integrated library systems (Millennium) and the application of technology to enhance effectiveness in library operations and can facilitates access to electronic resources ;
• Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in technical services and library technologies and ability to view issues from a broad library-wide perspective
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team based organization
• Evidence of excellent problem solving skills and commitment to excellent services to a culturally diverse user base
• Demonstrated capacity to foster and manage change  and ability to lead, envision, and plan for future directions
• Analyze and manage materials processing requirements and workflows
• Experience in negotiating terms and conditions with vendors
• Experience with assessment of library services, strategic planning, and project management
• Skill in advancing ongoing partnerships and alliances within the ADA community and beyond
• Active in professional organizations and displays a desire to work in newly developed professional associations and experience providing reference service
• Creates documentation and instructs staff on automated systems, new technology and technical service procedures. Develops and executes custom procedures and reports as requested
• Experience with materials storage and management practices and procedures.
