Dean, Academic Affairs

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dean of Academic Affairs reports to the Executive Dean, provides academic leadership and works with faculty and administration in formulating and developing programs of ADA’s School of International Affairs.

S/he is responsible for all aspects of academic program delivery and support including organizing, scheduling and overseeing programs at ADA, improving student advisement, and enhancing/revising curricular development in line with the Bologna standards and ADA’s set strategic goals.

The Dean of Academic Affairs assures systematic evaluation of all programs, supervises faculty development and maintains academic integrity and quality at the highest level.

Working collaboratively with other members of the Academy and partner international schools, the Academic Dean promotes innovation and scholarly working environment at ADA by sustaining academic and professional excellence for both students and faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other responsibilities of the Dean of Academic Affairs include:

• Provide overall guidance in the implementation of academic programs at ADA’s School of International Affairs, including but not limited to curriculum development, guiding faculty in syllabus development, administering faculty and class schedules etc;
• Recommend and help develop new interdisciplinary graduate programs in line with ADA’s strategic plan on graduate education;
• Recommend and help develop new undergraduate program in line with ADA’s strategic plan on undergraduate education;
• Establish student and faculty exchanges with other graduate schools in Europe and elsewhere;
• Ensure the quality of education and develop quality assurance and control mechanism at ADA;
• Review and enhance the quality of graduate programs on a continuous basis by utilizing technology in teaching and learning;
• Develop and implement policies, rules and regulations for graduate education in accordance with the Bologna process;
• Advise the Rector, Vice-rector, the Executive Dean and other members of the ADA leadership on accreditation related matters and prepare accreditation guidelines;
• Work closely with other members of the Academy in the preparation and implementation of the budgeting process for graduate and undergraduate programs;
• Oversee evaluation of all faculty and taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate level;
• Supervise, develop and evaluate other members of the academic team at ADA;
• Guide/assist the Executive Dean and the HR Department of ADA in hiring and developing faculty and academic staff members.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A PhD from an accredited institution ;
• At least 5 years of demonstrated and successful leadership experience such as a dean, associate dean, or a department head or chair ;
• Must show a demonstrated commitment to diversity and the Academy's mission, vision, and values ;
• A record of proven knowledge in the area of academic program development, evaluation, curriculum development  and R & D ;
• Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate and enforce academic program policies, procedures, and standards and corporate personnel ;
• A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and/or professional activity to meet the qualifications for assignment of faculty rank ;
• Ability to manage an academic organization and work effectively with colleagues among both faculty and staff ;
• Ability to function as a team player dedicated to achieving the specific goals of the Academy ;
• Must have a working knowledge of personal software packages to prepare correspondence, spreadsheets, and reports ;
• Proven experience in a progressively responsible capacity in an education environment directing and/or leading organization-wide activities;
• Experience in assessing student learning outcomes, including regular review of academic standards and quality of programs and instruction ;
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills ;
• Must be results oriented and able to direct multiple projects and activities ;
• Ability to develop and maintain fair, consistent, and transparent means of handling ongoing relevant administrative activities ;
• Ability to have a substantial commitment to education, scholarship, and public service.
