Law Librarian (Senior Specialist), Research and Instructional Services

Position overview:

The Law Librarian provides specialized assistance and guidance to library patrons in navigating through legal digital and print materials (e.g., case law, statutes, e-treatises), conducting research and accessing legal databases and electronic libraries. They organize legal information literacy sessions and perform multi-directive analysis on institutional and global legal databases.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Specialized Research: Provide expert reference assistance and consulting for legal and subject-specific research at all levels, both in person and via virtual e-communications;
  • Collection Development Support: Oversee the dynamics of electronic legal collection and support physical collections’ growth, select appropriate materials to support the law curriculum and legal community needs;
  • Instruction: Develop guidelines, tutorials, course integrated sessions and instruct users in on legal research techniques and the use of specialized library information resources;
  • Assessment: Design and assess library instruction and legal information competency workshops and orientations;
  • Curriculum Support: Help define information literacy objectives specifically for legal education and design library-based assignments;
  • Technological Innovation: Recommend and implement emerging technologies, such as legal digitalization projects;
  • Resource Sharing: Manage the Library’s Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service;
  • Professional Development: Maintain awareness of literature and developments within the national and international legal library world through conferences and seminars;
  • Community Engagement: Actively support and engage the ADA University community and its partners with necessary legal information needs;
  • General Duties: Perform other library duties as assigned by the Manager.

Requirements: 

  • An accredited MLIS degree (or equivalent) and fluency in English. A degree in Law is often preferred for subject librarians;
  • Proficiency with Integrated Library Systems and legal research databases; 
  • Minimum three years of related library experience;
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal communication, and analytical skills;
  • Experience in information literacy instruction within a culturally diverse community;
  • A flexible approach, the ability to work on one's own initiative, and the ability to work as part of a team;
  • Availability to travel to the partner university abroad for one semester.
