Commemorative Event Honoring National Leader Heydar Aliyev Held at George Washington University

An event commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the passing of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held on December 12 at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United States, the event brought together Azerbaijani officials, representatives of the Azerbaijani community in the U.S., and Azerbaijani students pursuing their studies across the country.

The event began with a minute of silence to honor the memory of the National Leader.

In his opening remarks, Khazar Ibrahim, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the United States, emphasized Heydar Aliyev’s pivotal role in strengthening Azerbaijan–U.S. relations. He noted that the Washington Summit held on August 8 marked the beginning of a new phase in bilateral cooperation.

Hafiz Pashayev, Rector of ADA University, highlighted the National Leader’s strategic foresight and described Heydar Aliyev as an outstanding diplomat whose vision laid the foundation for Azerbaijan’s modern foreign policy.

Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, spoke about Heydar Aliyev’s decisive role in the signing of historic energy and oil agreements that significantly shaped the country’s economic development.

Samad Seyidov, Member of Parliament and Head of the Azerbaijan–U.S. Interparliamentary Working Group, underlined the importance of the agreements signed between Azerbaijan and the United States as one of the National Leader’s major achievements, adding that this policy is being successfully continued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

The event concluded with the screening of the documentary “Iz” (Trace) produced by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, followed by a photo exhibition showcasing Heydar Aliyev’s visits to the United States.
