Overview

ADA University invites applications from highly motivated and academically accomplished candidates for the 2027 PhD intake, offered in collaboration with the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at George Washington University (GWU).

The opportunity is available in the following fields:

• Computer Engineering
• Computer Science
• Electrical Engineering

The program provides selected candidates with the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies in a stimulating international academic environment, conduct advanced research, and collaborate with faculty and researchers at George Washington University, and develop valuable academic and professional networks.

The initiative is part of ADA University’s commitment to developing a strong pipeline of future academics and researchers. By supporting talented scholars in pursuing doctoral education at an internationally recognized institution, ADA University seeks to strengthen expertise in areas of strategic importance to the University and contribute to the development of its academic community.

Upon completion of their doctoral studies, scholars are expected to return with advanced research expertise, international academic experience, and teaching skills that can contribute to ADA University’s continued academic development.

The PhD programs require a four-year, full-time commitment, including advanced coursework, independent research, and the completion and defense of a doctoral dissertation.

Eligibility Criteria

The opportunity is open to citizens of Azerbaijan who meet the following criteria:

• A strong academic background in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering;
• A master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent qualification, with demonstrated potential for doctoral-level research;
• English language proficiency meeting the relevant GWU PhD program (applicants should consult the applicable GWU program requirements for international admissions);
• A clear interest in pursuing high-quality academic research and innovation;
• Teaching experience is an advantage.

Application and Selection Process

The selection and admission process will consist of the following stages:

1. ADA University Pre-Selection

Applicants will first participate in an internal pre-selection process conducted by ADA University. The Selection Committee will assess candidates based on their academic background, English proficiency, subject knowledge, research experience, academic and professional achievements, motivation, and future academic aspirations.

Candidates selected through the ADA University pre-selection process will be nominated to proceed to the official GWU SEAS admission process.

2. GWU SEAS Admission

Nominated candidates will submit their formal applications to GWU SEAS and complete all required admission procedures. Candidates will be responsible for fulfilling GWU’s admission requirements and submitting the required supporting documents, including the applicable proof of English language proficiency.

Admission to GWU is subject to the University’s official admission requirements and decisions.

3. Scholarship and Funding Support

Candidates admitted to GWU will be considered for financial support. Depending on availability and the applicable arrangements, funding may be provided either directly by ADA University or through the “Study Abroad” State Program (2022–2028).

Information regarding the applicable funding mechanism and conditions will be communicated to successful candidates as the selection and admission process progresses.

Throughout the process, candidates will receive guidance and support from ADA University’s PhD Support and Development Department.

Required Application Documents

Applicants should complete the online application at: www.ada.edu.az/apply and submit the following documents by October 26, 2026:

1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. Statement of Purpose (maximum 500 words)
   The statement should describe your research interests, motivation for pursuing a PhD, and the relevance of your academic and professional background to your chosen field.
3. Academic Writing Sample in English
   This may include a thesis chapter, research paper, or another piece of academic work demonstrating your analytical, research, and academic writing skills.
4. Proof of English Language Proficiency
5. Academic Transcripts (an unofficial/scanned copy is acceptable)

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview with ADA University’s Selection Committee.
