ADA University is pleased to announce a Call for Course Participation in the framework of its project on “Improving Higher Education Capacity and U.S. Linkages in Azerbaijan”. These semester-long, inquiry-based courses, aiming at enhancing research potential of the country are intended for graduate and postgraduate students, independent researchers, young faculty members from various higher education institutions and think-tank organizations, particularly in the field of social sciences and humanities across a wide spectrum of disciplines (political science, sociology, philosophy, history, education, law, economics, gender studies, public policy, etc.)
Project Background
Funded by the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, the overall objective of the above-mentioned project is to increase the international profile of Azerbaijani Universities and researchers, to build and sustain nationwide research network.
The project will introduce a wide range of semester-long research-oriented courses and short-term training programs on “Social Research Methods”, “Academic Writing” and “Statistical Analysis” necessary to support and encourage project beneficiaries to produce high-impact academic papers in the field of social sciences to be publicized at international, regional and national workshops and conferences, as well as policy papers to provide decision-makers with an overview of an issue or problem, targeted analysis, and actionable recommendations.
Depending on the field of study, the Project will pair ADA faculty with participants to provide mentorship, and to help them draft academic papers and submit them to international conferences.
ADA University will offer a series of intensive workshops on Social Research Methods and Academic writing in four regions (Ganja, Lenkoran, Nakhchivan, Sheki). The workshops will focus on the formulation of research questions and objectives, research design methodology, research methods and techniques of data collection and data analysis and interpretation, qualitative and quantitative research, research paper writing rules. The workshops in the regions will be delivered in Azerbaijani.
Course Description
ADA University will offer semester-long courses on Social Research Methods (40 hours), Statistical Analysis (25 hours) and Academic Writing (25 hours). The courses will be delivered in English. The duration of SRM course is 4 months. Leading professors of ADA University will deliver these courses. The project participants will have to follow all course requirements and fulfill all course assignments. Upon the completion of the courses, successful applicants will be awarded with the Certificate of Completion.
By the end of these courses, the participants will improve their academic research skills by:
- formulating good research questions and design appropriate research;
- collecting own data using a variety of methods;
- analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data;
- critically evaluating own research and that of other social scientists;
- estimating, interpreting and presenting data;
- doing statistical inferences;
- using probability theory and conduct hypothesis testing;
- learning the main principles of effective and powerful writing applicable for research paper;
- exploring effective ways of writing in a concise, structured and convincing manner.
