Introduction

ADA University is delighted to announce the opening of applications for the Fall 2026 PhD intake, developed in collaboration with the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at George Washington University (GWU)This program offers exceptional candidates the opportunity to pursue doctorate studies in the following areas:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering

Through this partnership, students will benefit from a rigorous academic environment, international exposure, and the opportunity to collaborate closely with leading scholars from George Washington University.

The PhD programs require a four-year, full-time commitment, encompassing advanced coursework, intensive research, and the completion of a doctoral thesis.

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to citizens of Azerbaijan who meet the following criteria:

  • Strong academic record in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) with demonstrated research potential.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (GWU minimum requirements: IELTS 7.0; TOEFL iBT 100; TOEFL PBT 600).
  • Motivation to pursue high-quality academic research and innovation.
  • Teaching experience is an advantage

Application Process

The admission process consists of the following stages:

  1. ADA University Pre-Selection: Applicants must first undergo an internal selection process at ADA University. The Selection Committee will evaluate applications based on English proficiency, academic background, content knowledge, research experience, aspirations, and achievements in the field. Shortlisted candidates will be nominated for the official GWU SEAS admission process.
  2. GWU Application Procedure: Nominated candidates will then submit their official application to GWU SEAS, fulfilling all admission requirements, including standardized English test scores and supporting documents. 
  3. Scholarship and Funding Support: Applicants admitted to GWU will be considered for financial support. Funding may be provided either directly by ADA University or through the “Study Abroad” State Program (2022–2028), depending on availability. Details regarding the applicable funding mechanism will be communicated to candidates at the time of admission.

Throughout the entire process, candidates will receive guidance and support from ADA University’s PhD Support and Development Department.

 

Required Application Documents  

Apply online at https://ada.edu.az/apply-to-phd-with-gwu and submit the following documents by November 12, 2025:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  2. Statement of purpose (max. 500 words): Outline your research interests, motivations for pursuing a PhD, and the relevance of your background to your chosen field.
  3. Writing sample in English: A thesis chapter, research paper, or another piece of academic work demonstrating analytical and writing ability.
  4. Proof of English Language Proficiency.

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with ADA University’s Selection Committee.
